Hunting licence

If you want to be issued with a hunting licence, including a guest hunting licence, the police will request that you meet certain requirements before giving their consent to the Danish Agency for Green Area Conversion and Aquatic Environment (Styrelsen for Grøn Arealomlægning og Vandmiljø, SGAV) to issue you with a hunting licence. Find out more about the requirements below.

Consent to hunting licence

You can apply to the SGAV for a hunting licence. To be eligible for a hunting licence in Denmark, you must meet a number of requirements.

More information about the requirements that you must meet is available at the SGAV's website, both as regards to hunting licences and guest hunting licences.

Before the SGAV can issue you with a hunting licence, consent must be obtained from the police. Before you can be issued with a hunting licence, the police must ensure that you meet the statutory requirements of conduct. Based on your criminal records, etc., the police will assess whether you are eligible to purchase and possess weapons and whether the SGAV can issue you with a hunting licence without it raising any concern. If the police consents, information from the police records on criminal offences, etc., will be forwarded to the police's Weapons and Permit Department (Våben og Tilladelser) as long as your hunting licence is in force.

If you have stayed abroad for more than six months within the past five years you must in some cases also submit your criminal records from the relevant country(ies).

  • Danish nationals who are/have been resident in the EU: You do not have to submit your criminal records as the EU has a system for the exchange of criminal records.
  • Danish nationals who are/have been resident outside the EU: You must submit your criminal records if you live/have lived outside the EU. If you are not a Danish national, you must in any case submit your criminal records if you live/have lived outside Denmark within the past five years.
